Harlem Half Studio
Harlem Half Studio is a meditation on the legacy of mid-century materiality: namely the concrete high-rise and the wood framing. A trio of sculptural forms converge to create a shared studio space for two artists, a hallway gallery, a new kitchen, and a new connection between living and working areas.
West facing windows provide strong sunrise and sunset lighting, informing the choice of luminous materials in the kitchen and living room. Throughout, the original unit’s mid-century character is left intact, while the sculptural walls provide masks of color to all social spaces.
